When we were talking about rape and abortion legislation, a friend of mine once said (not maliciously) “but you’re a man, you don’t have any investment in this”.
I looked at her and said “Oh yes, because it isn’t as though men can be raped. It’s not like I have women in my life who I love and care about. I’ll never have a daughter or anything. In fact, since I’m not a woman I suppose that renders my moral compass entirely inept and incapable of making decisions.” (perhaps I was not so succinct and clear, I was pretty offended at the time)
This isn’t about men having a say in a debate about women. This is about humans having a say in a debate about humans. Perhaps we should stop women from having a say in debates about war since “no matter how you look at it, a man will do the most work with a gun in his hand and nightmares in his head”. There are people who this affects who are important to me. Abortion affects everyone, and even if I don’t really know if I’m pro-choice or pro-life (both terms are asinine anyway) it shocks me to think that you have the gall to say I don’t have a voice because of the genitals I was born with.
Also, about your silly self-righteous “I’ll decide myself” which you probably thought was a fierce way to end your tirade: Should we legalize state-assisted suicide since people who aren’t going to commit suicide shouldn’t have a say in it and people who want to commit suicide “will decide themselves”?
